A reliable approach to oilfield services

High-quality service in the oil industry significantly affects the country's energy and environmental security. Therefore, much attention is paid to the development of this sector. In particular, the Energy Strategy of Russia until 2030 indicates that the strategic goal of subsurface management and improving the management of the State fund of subsurface resources will be achieved through the development of the oilfield services market.

According to experts from Institute for National Economic Forecasts of the Russian Academy of Sciences, there are currently opportunities in this area for increasing demand and introducing new products and services to the market. Including for this reason, the Russian oilfield service is a highly competitive market.

In Russia, TNG Group has been one of the leading companies in this sector for many years. It has been continuously developing on the market for more than 60 years and therefore has a huge experience.

The company was founded in 1953 and was then renamed: State Union Tatar Geophysics Trust Tatneftegeofizika. It appeared in Tatarstan to provide black gold miners with potentially oil-bearing facilities. The trust included the Bugulminsk, Almetyevsk and Kazan field-geophysical offices, a geophysical workshop-laboratory, as well as a construction site. Over time, Tatneftegeofizika became one of the largest geophysical enterprises in the country.
In 2006, a company restructuring was carried out. TNG Group has developed on the basis of a geophysical enterprise.
Today TNG-Group is a cluster of oil, gas exploration, research and production units, which are involved in almost all oil and gas producing regions of Russia, as well as in countries near and far abroad.

To date, the company has discovered more than 150 oil and gas oilfields and deposits and has prepared over 800 potentially oil-bearing structures for deep drilling.

Chapter 2
Geological challenges of YAMAL

Yamal is the most interesting location requiring the expertise to work in harsh climatic conditions. Now the company has focused on this region. The complexity of work on the peninsula is determined by geocryological, hydrogeological, and thermodynamic processes carrying certain dangers.

It should be noted that Yamal is influenced by warm air masses coming from the Atlantic Ocean, as well as cold masses that come from the Polar Regions. Their collision leads to a dramatic shift in temperature, to the formation of a large amount of precipitation, winds and snowstorms.

Moreover, in the warmer months, lakes, swamps and rivers intensively spill over the territory of the peninsula. This also significantly complicates the process of developing and field production.

During oil and gas service operations, all of these conditions have to be considered.
In short, the Yamal gas fields require a careful approach and the use of highly effective innovative technologies. One of them is the SLIP-SWEEP technology, based on the method of overlapping sweep signals, in which the vibros work simultaneously. The main feature of this technology is the use of three or more groups of vibration sources operating almost in standalone mode, independently from each other, which can significantly accelerate the production of vibration stage – recording seismic data – and increase productivity by 2-3 times. At the same time, a certain drop in the quality of the primary material in comparison with standard methods is compensated by an increased magnitude survey density.

Facts

The SLIP-SWEEP methodology requires the involvement of more seismic equipment by about 30-40%, vibration machines – by 50%, personnel and transport – by 15-20%. However, due to the completion of work in a shorter time, the cost is lower and the profitability is higher.

TNG-Group already has its victories in the Yamal Peninsula. The company won a tender for 3D seismic survey of the Yamal deposits worth 13.3 billion rubles. This is known to be the most expensive exploration tender in the history of Gazprom.
The complex of exploration work planned at the Tambey group of gas fields and the Malyginsky site is unique and unprecedented in terms of complexity of methodology and volume. A large number of machines, equipment and people were involved in the work. Until 2021, the company will study 3D seismic and 3D electrical exploration of 4025 sq. km., and by the end of 2022 it should provide an opinion on the geological structure of these sections. But there is more to come. The next 5 years, the company will also study modern seismic geological structure of two other large gas fields: Bovanenkovsky and Kharasaveysky. The total area of the plots is 3337 sq. km.
In addition to onshore seismic surveys, the project involves research in the transit part of the sea - in the Gulf of Ob.
For the first time in 2019, TNG-Group performed seismic survey in the transit zone for Gazprom in the waters of the Gulf of Ob within the Tambey field. The search for hydrocarbons in transit zones is an urgent task. Due to the specifics and numerous organizational difficulties, only a few companies undertake work in the transit zone.

A complex of marine wide-azimuth seismic surveys with an increased recording density in the transition zone between the coastal part and the water area is planned for 2 summer field seasons of 2019-2020.

Developing Yamal together: Contribution of TNG-GROUP to the development of the region
The Gydan Peninsula

In addition to extensive plans, TNG-Group has already successfully completed projects. Among them there is seismic survey on the Gydan Peninsula. The main difficulty in this section was that the work was carried out beyond the Arctic Circle, and the time allocated was tight. However, the company coped with its task and received high quality field material. In 2017, an average daily productivity for the vibrator seismic crew of 578 shots per day was achieved on Medvezhye LU, with a maximum of 820 shots.

On the Gydan Peninsula TNG-Group first used SLIP-SWEEP high-performance vibro-seismic exploration technology. For all necessary work, during the navigation period, shakers, missing machinery and equipment, fuel and lubricants were delivered to the designated point by barges. The seismic station and field processing were equipped with powerful, high-speed computers and storage media for working with large data arrays. But after the start it was necessary to import another 100 cables of transverse connections for more stable operation of the seismic station. This problem was solved using a special helicopter board. As a result, the seismic party completed work earlier, having exceeded the plan for 100 sq. km.

Khadyryakhinsk and Beregovoe gas and condensate field
The company has also succeeded by conducting geophysical operations to support drilling, perforation and development of wells in the Khadyryakhinsk and Beregovoye gas and condensate fields. They were successfully completed by the Urengoy Geophysical Expedition in more than 2 years.
On Beregovoy, in 2017, TNG-LenGIS specialists discovered the Cenomanian gas reservoir during the perforating and blasting operations to perforate production wells. This was a new experience for geophysicists, since the task was carried out by open-hole perforation systems through tubing using a truck crane and a lubricator installation.

The Khadyryakhinsk field has its own specifics of work. Firstly, during the operation at well No. 112, specialists used a well tractor to deliver equipment. It is highly reliable for delivering logging equipment in horizontal wells. Secondly, when recording the inflow profile to comply with high-speed regimes, all recordings were made on the rise. This work was carried out for the first time. Nevertheless, specialists managed to obtain high-quality materials.

Zapolyarnoye oil and gas condensate field
The most important oilfield services were performed by TNG-Group's subsidiary, TNG-Kazangeofizika. At the Zapolyarnoye oil and gas condensate field, using modern geophysical equipment, the specialists recorded a change in the density of reservoir rocks that occurs during the development of a gas field when gas is replaced with water.
At the same time, high-precision gravimetric monitoring was used to control the development of deposits. It is able to provide the subsurface user with significant cost savings. In addition, specialists performed gravimetric monitoring at the Yamsoveysk, Yubileynoye and Bovanenkovsk gas fields.
The work of TNG-Group in complex deposits is made possible largely due to advanced technologies in the field of geophysics. Here are just a few examples of such technologies.
Seismic survey with wireless equipment
TNG-Group exploration seismologists have successfully tested a real-time wireless seismic data acquisition system in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The system not only differs in the minimum dimensions and promises increased productivity, but also aims to preserve the environment. An integrated approach allows TNG Group to choose the most effective technologies and tools for solving delicate structural and dynamic tasks of the customer.
Multiplesonde cross-dipole acoustic log
It allows to estimate the porosity of the rocks with great reliability, to perform a petrophysical analysis, quantify the anisotropy and permeability of the reservoirs, determine the orientation and calculate the depth of propagation of cracks using formation hydraulic fracturing. Having assessed the capabilities of similar foreign equipment, TNG-Group experts found a number of technological and methodological solutions for combining several separate acoustic logging tools into a single whole, which was implemented only in a few geophysical clusters of foreign world-renowned companies.
NMR logging – core sample plant
With its help, the rock (core) is analyzed immediately after rising to the surface, without preliminary preparation. A kind of rapid analysis carried out right at the well.

The new NMR logging – core sample mobile unit is an improved version of the first, developed under a federal grant in conjunction with KFU scientists, but it is much more powerful than its predecessor, who worked in a weak field of the Earth at the beginning of the 2000s.

Today, due to a novelty in real time, the geophysicists obtain information on the computer monitor about the porous network: the predominance of pores of one size or another, the content of the mobile (free) fluid in the core under study. Together, these data allow us to answer the question: is it possible to extract fluid. A special measurement mode allows to determine the type of fluid (oil or water) and its amount. You can also examine the core in a polyethylene core receiver tube ( core barrel) and get additional information in the interests of the customer for planning future work at the well. And most importantly all operations are carried out directly at the well.
Geosteering services for well drilling, information and technological support
Geosteering is the reduction of uncertainties in geological and seismic data, the optimal entry into the reservoir and the achievement of the maximum effective length of a horizontal wellbore in a formation with the best filtration and reservoir properties. MWD/LWD systems provide operational data on the direction of the wellbore during controlled-angle drilling; on the efficiency and safety of drilling, including data on annular pressure, pore pressure, wobble of drill string, for making appropriate decisions. They ensure the accuracy of petrophysical measurements in the conditions of minimal calcination, erosion and contamination of the well walls with drilling fluid.
